Desmond Lynam , in discussion with Ruud Gullit , Alan Hansen and Gary Lineker , looks forward to the European Championship which kicks offtomorrow.
The tournament - the biggest sporting event in this country since the World Cup Finals of 1966 - promises action and excitement both on and off the pitch. Holders Denmark will be fightingto retain the trophy, but Holland, Italy and favourites Germany are all strong contenders. As well as the shock that English PFA Playerof the Year Eric Cantona and Newcastle's
David Ginola have been left out of the French squad, the tournament's finish is also significant for markingthe end of Terry Venables 's time at the helm for England and the handingoverof responsibilities to Glenn Hoddle.
The programme features comments from Germany's JurgenKlinsmann and ManchesterUnited and Denmark goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel , as well as the England and Scotland coaches, Terry Venables and Craig Brown. ProducerVivien Kent: Editor Philip Bernie

9.30pm BBC1 Memorise these numbers: one - four - seven - one. They could save a life. At least, that's the dramatic moral of one of tonight's stories.
Shirley Whitehouse, 56, normally enjoyed good health until one day she was violently sick and collapsed. She crawled to the phone, tried to call her daughter but, in her distress, misdialled, then blacked out. Fortunately for her, she'd got through to conscientious car repair man John Wilcox, who checked the mystery call by dialling 1471. He got through, discovered that Mrs Whitehouse was seriously ill (in fact she'd suffered a heart attack) and called the ambulance. Help arrived in the nick of time, and the patient is now fully recovered.
