Shirley Whitehouse, 56, normally enjoyed good health until one day she was violently sick and collapsed. She crawled to the phone, tried to call her daughter but, in her distress, misdialled, then blacked out. Fortunately for her, she'd got through to conscientious car repair man John Wilcox, who checked the mystery call by dialling 1471. He got through, discovered that Mrs Whitehouse was seriously ill (in fact she'd suffered a heart attack) and called the ambulance. Help arrived in the nick of time, and the patient is now fully recovered.
