The series offering the latest news of science, medicine and technology.
In 1993, Adriana [text removed] was born four months prematurely and weighing less than one kilogram. When attempts to get air into her lungs failed, doctors turned to "liquid breathing", where the lungs are flooded with a non-toxicfluid called perfluorocarbon that can transport oxygen. It worked, and the programme reports from America on the first full trials of this technique.
Plus, a NASA experiment that tests if
British chemist Nigel Packham can survive in a cramped airtight box for 15 days with his oxygen supply recycled by 30,000 wheat seedlings; and a look at a new jet-powered car, designed to travel at over 800 mph. Hosted by Howard Stableford and Shahnaz Pakravan , with Vivienne Parry and Jez Nelson. Producer Sam Roberts ; Editor Edward Briffa
