In 1993, Adriana [text removed] was born four months prematurely and weighing less than one kilogram. When attempts to get air into her lungs failed, doctors turned to "liquid breathing", where the lungs are flooded with a non-toxicfluid called perfluorocarbon that can transport oxygen.
