Albert Waxman is a rich and successful Yorkshire businessman; Ruth Simmonks is a retired microbiologist; Lutz Zeisler , a former mill worker, now works as a lollipop man; Avraham Shomroni lives on a kibbutz in Israel. But they all shared the experience of a big, old house in Bradford where, as children fleeing Nazi persecution, they came to live just before the outbreak of war. Now, 50 years on, with other former child refugees, they return to the hostel to remember their lives together as children and the cruel course of events that brought them there.
