My Homeland
Documentary film-maker Robert Vas made his most personal film, a moving and beautiful evocation of memories of his homeland, Hungary, for Omnibus in 1976. It is shown again tonight, ten years after
Robert Vas 's tragic death, and in it he narrates his own personal account of the events in Hungary in 1956 that so strongly marked his vision and his film-making.
Going into self-imposed exile, Vas settled in England and became one of the most admired and individual directors working in British television. My Homeland shows him at his most impassioned, seeking the essence and ideals of his country through its poetry and art.

Mackenzie Phillips Rafferty is an easy-going kind of guy who has not had much success with his army career. He is not that great as a Los Angeles driving instructor either. But it's a job he gets plenty of practice at when he is kidnapped by the 'Gold Dust Twins', a couple of vagrants called Mac and Frisbee, who force him to begin a hectic and hilarious journey way down to New Orleans.
