The Lawn Tennis Championships
MARTINA NAVRATILOVA , the defending champion, begins the defence of her title on the Centre Court and few will doubt her ability to win for the sixth time in eight years. Last year she won the coveted Grand Slam (and with it one million dollars) and she comes to these great Championships seemingly unbeatable on the grass.
However, 127 others will be trying to prove she isn't and they include CHRIS LLOYD , a three-time winner here and the conqueror of Navratilova in the final of the French Championship a fortnight ago. Since that victory Lloyd has been named the world's number one and the competition between these two great players will be fierce.
