The Lawn Tennis Championships
The second day's play direct from the All England Club featuring The Ladies' Singles
Chris Lloyd , three times champion and one of the most popular ladies to grace the Championships, starts the defence of her title on the Centre Court, but the road to the Final in 11 days' time could not be tougher.
Returning after a year's absence is Australian Evonne Cawley who beat Mrs Lloyd in the 1980 Final, while Martina Navratilova , recently restored as the World's No 1, will be strongly favoured to add to her titles of 1978 and 1979. The concentration of the American teenagers, Tracy Austin and Andrea Jaeger, could carry them to success, while the determination of the young Czech, Hana Mandli kova, to avenge the heavy defeat at the hands of Chris Lloyd in the final last year, will make her a formidable opponent. Commentators
DAN MASKELL JOHN BARRETT , PETER WEST , MARK COX, ANN JONES , BILL THRELFALL and RICHARD EVANS.
