Twenty-five years ago, on 2 June 1953. Elizabeth II was crowned in Westminster Abbey in a ceremony which is older than Domesday and has only been slightly modified over 1,004 years. With an introduction by the late LORD FISHER, Archbishop of Canterbury, this film of the Coronation service combines original cinema film in colour and television coverage.
The impressive state ceremonial is also a musical feast, with an orchestra of distinguished players and a choir of hundreds.

A new perspective on the first ascent of the world's highest mountain with John Hunt, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, the surviving members of the 1953 British Everest Expedition, and Jan Morris who, as JAMES MORRIS of The Times, was responsible for the story breaking on the eve of Coronation Day.
Twenty-five years on, 'this brightest jewel of the Queen's Coronation' can be seen to have had unexpected repercussions at home and in the Himalayas.
Since 1953 nearly 60 people have reached the summit of Everest but Hillary and Tenzing remain the best-known climbers in the world. Introduced by Alfred Gregory of the original expedition.

PROFESSOR BERNARD WILLIAMS asks: Can philosophy resolve some contemporary moral dilemmas?
5: Loyalty: a Dubious Virtue?
Being loyal to someone means putting them before someone else - and as such offends against the principle that people should be treated as equals. RICHARD HARE, Professor of Moral Philosophy at Oxford University, argues with BERNARD WILLIAMS about how one can justify being loyal.
