The natural economy of a tropical rain forest examined from the basement to the roof. Firstly, the fauna of the leaf litter, including Mexican agoutis and elephant beetles; in the middle, butterflies and 'air plants'; and finally, colourful macaws, noisy howler monkeys and agile spider monkeys up in the forest canopy. Rain jungles are under pressure, posing a vital problem for mankind.
