The Westminster Abbey Choir has sung during the greatest occasions of Church and State for more than 900 years - at the funerals of statesmen, at the Coronations of our Kings and Queens. In this programme the choir sings music by composers who have helped make the Abbey's choral tradition, who have held the traditional title 'Organist and Master of the Choristers.' Moira Shearer introduces tonight's programme from Westminster Abbey in which the present Abbey Choir pays a musical tribute to nearly a thousand years of music making.

Pub entertainment, serious art form or simply an excuse for letting off steam? British Jazz has served all these purposes during its 50-odd years. Today the music's fragmented; different styles coexist, each with its own heroes and devotees. Including
Trombonist George Chisholm, one of the first British musicians to gain an international reputation, with the Alex Welsh band.
The Humphrey Lyttelton band of the early 50s reconstituted to play for jiving at the 100 Club in Oxford Street.
The Bebop Preservation Society at the Bull's Head in Barnes.
Alexis Korner and friends play and talk about 'rhythm 'n' blues.' Iskra 1903, whose music overlaps with the experiments of the classical avant-garde.
Ian Carr's Nucleus, who have extended the vocabulary of jazz by using the sounds and rhythms of rock music.
Also appearing Benny Green, George Melly, Ken Colyer and Charles Fox
