Blast-off for Yuri Gagarin, the first man ever to orbit the earth, was in 1961. Since then Russian exploration of space has rivalled the American, but under the cloak of secrecy.
Tonight's programme tells the story of this great adventure for the first time-with the first film from the Russian Cosmodrome at Baikonur, from Star Village where the cosmonauts live together, and from other key points in the Russian space operation.

The story of the Heavyweight Championship of the World continues tonight.

Floyd Patterson and Ingemar Johansson provide the main events at this stage. They met three times in three years: a total of fourteen rounds of boxing. One fight stopped and two knockouts ended some of the fastest action the championship has seen.

For the first time a heavyweight champion regained his crown, and with the score at one each the third fight was unforgettable.
