The Soviets in Space

on BBC One London

Blast-off for Yuri Gagarin, the first man ever to orbit the earth, was in 1961. Since then Russian exploration of space has rivalled the American, but under the cloak of secrecy.
Tonight's programme tells the story of this great adventure for the first time-with the first film from the Russian Cosmodrome at Baikonur, from Star Village where the cosmonauts live together, and from other key points in the Russian space operation.
