The 'Dissonance' Quartet
One of the world's finest string quartets can be seen tonight in the first of two programmes recorded by the BBC before an invited audience. The quartet was formed in 1947 when the three Viennese musicians, who had begun their studies in Vienna and completed them in London, joined forces with the English cellist Martin Lovett. It was not long before they gained an international reputation and wide acclaim. Tonight they play Mozart; next Tuesday they will play another of the great works in the quartet repertoire, Schubert's A minor quartet.
