Canon of Salisbury
Earlier this year the Rev. Harry Williams spoke in the Third Programme on ' Religion as Self-deception.' He argued that self-awareness is a sine qua non of religious faith, and that the process of self-discovery and self-giving may lead far beyond the limits of conventional morality.
Canon Philp questions the force of this argument-and of the evidence adduced to support it-as 'bad psychology.' He is himself a former Lecturer in Social Psychology, has written on Freud and Jung, and is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society.
