Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, a radio adaptation first broadcast in 1953 of Anita Loos 's hilarious novel, is described on the title pace as ' The illuminating Diary of a Professional Lady.' This, in short, is the story of Lorelei and her unrefined friend Dorothy, and their encounters with American gentlemen. French gentlemen, English gentlemen. and even gentlemen's mothers. For. as Lorelei explains,
' a girl like 1 is really always on the verge of meeting gentlemen's mothers.'
