Music played by the Sinfonia of London conducted by Humphrey Searle rhe springboard for this play is a story from Norfolk about a magician who kept in a vast cave the souls of sailors drowned of! that coast. The tale tells how one sailor survived, found his way into the cave, and released the imprisoned souls. His name was Perceval. The story goes on to tell how Perceval found the secret of life deep in the cave and how he is still on his way back with it.
