Talk by L. R. Lewitter
Lecturer in Slavonic Studies in the University of Cambridge
Mickiewicz, Polish patriot and poet, died on November 26, 1855. Mr. Lewitter s talk, occasioned by the centenary of his death, presents him not only in his classical role as the author of a uniquely successful nineteenth-century epic but at the same time as a typically romantic embodiment of national aspirations, a trumpet which sang to battle, the acknowledged legislator of the Polish world.
