Denis Aplvor 's ballet A Mirror for Witches was produced by the Sadler's Wells Ballet Company at Covent Garden in 1952. The story concerns a young woman, DoU, who is falsely accused of witchcraft; she calls on the devil to help her, but he comes only to spurn her, and she dies. The movements of the suite are (1) Introduction and Fire Music; (2) The Wooing of Doll; The Death of Bilby; Cortege; (3) The Flight through the Forest.
Ian Grimble gives his impressions of the Faroese and an interpretation of their traditional social and political behaviour.
