' We shall only make an organism capable of surmounting the forces which are disintegrating the colonial system,' writes Paul Mus in his recent book Le Destin de l'Union Française, 'if it is an organism accepting that the condition of its existence is the risk of disintegration.' Mr. Robinson examines Professor Mus's argument and reviews France's attempt to work out a new form of association with her dependent territories in the light of events since 1945.
