' The Planned Town'
First of three talks by W. G. Hoskins
Reader in Economic History In the University of Oxford
The study of the topographical history of towns has for some time engaged the attention of Continental historians, but this approach and method has not generally been applied in this country. In these talks Dr. Hoskins discusses the nature and purpose of the study, with illustrations from his own researches into the historical landscape of English towns.
' The Open-field Town ': September 1

Suite, Op. 34
Moderato; Scherzo: Romance: Finale played by Lionel Solomon (flute)
Arthur Sandford (piano)
Besides being a brilliant organist, Charles Wider (1845-1937) was a prolific composer; his works include three operas and ten symphonies for organ. His Suite for flute and piano, which dates from 1898, is a good example of his graceful and fluent style. H.R.
