First of five programmes of music by Tallis.
Although Thomas Tallis (c. 1505-1585) is universally recognised as one of the greatest and most influential of Tudor composers, his works have suffered an undeserved neglect by reason of their comparative difficulty of access. Most of his music for the Sarum rite was composed at Waltham and at Canterbury, but on his subsequent appointment to the Chapel Royal (where he remained for forty years) he was constantly employed in writing music for the Reformed Church. This series of five programmes, designed to show many aspects of Tallis' remarkable musical genius, will include music for organ, harpsichord, strings, and voices.

Natural History and Natural Philosophy
Second of four talks by Stephen Toulmin
Lecturer in the Philosophy of Science in the University of Oxford
