First of two talks by A. Tilney Bassett
For a number of years Mr. Bassett has been occupied in sorting and cataloguing the 250,000-odd papers accumulated by Mr. Gladstone. These papers were originally stored at Hawarden and have now been presented to the British Museum. In this talk the speaker outlines the history of the collection and talks in particular about the contents of some of the many letters Mr. Gladstone received and preserved. On Thursday at 11.30 Mr. Bassett describes the ' miscellaneous ' section of the papers-mainly manuscripts in Mr. Gladstone's own hand.
