About six years ago, a party of young people joined together to go carol-singing. They were so successful that in April, 1931, they formed a committee and decided to continue as a permanent body, adopting the present name of C6r-y-Celyn. Most of the members, including the conductor, live in the Llwyn-y-celyn district of Porth, and their practice room is Bethania Vestry, Llwyn-y-celyn-which explains the name. Within a year, the choir won the first prize at the Pontypridd Semi-National Eisteddfod, the conductor being then only twenty-one years of age.
