This historic church was founded during a stormy period-towards the close of the Civil War. A few years before, in 1639, the first Nonconformist church in the Principality was founded at Llanfaches by William Wroth , a Monmouthshire man and an Oxford graduate trained for the Church of England. 
Assisted by such men as Henry Jessey , William Erbury , Walter Craddock , Ambrose Mostyn , and others, many churches of the Congregational denomination were founded in Monmouthshire and the adjoining counties, and it was during this period of activity that this church of Rehoboth came into being. 
The present building was erected in 1827, and in less than twenty years the church was enlarged for the third time to its present dimensions, with a seating capacity for a thousand people.
