David Williams
A dramatic interlude, Thomas Charles o'r Bala is intimately associated with the beginnings of three important movements - the Welsh Sunday School, Calvinistic Methodism as a separate denomination, and the British and Foreign Bible Society.
'Can the Welsh Nation survive the Population Crisis?'
A series of talks for discussion groups arranged by Brinley Thomas. These talks deal with the changes that have affected the social, cultural, and industrial life of South Wales during the past twenty years.
The heritage of a nation - its language, literature, and culture - will surely perish if the number of people who really care for it is steadily diminishing. In this talk - the last in the series - Mr. Thomas will discuss what prospect there is of the smaller population of the future being able to maintain Welsh institutions and hand on the national heritage.
Arranged by David de Lloyd sung by Tom Pickering (tenor) and Katie Griffiths (soprano)
Katie Griffiths , who sings the songs in this programme with Tom Pickering , was born at Aberystwyth, and won numerous prizes in local Eisteddfodau before entering the music department of the University College of Wales in 1921. She began a course of study under Sir Walford Davies , and sang regularly at the College Weekly Concerts and at Gregynog Hall, the residence of the Misses Davies. She has also sung at Churt and at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. Radio listeners have heard her broadcast from London, Cardiff, Swansea, and Aberystwyth.
