A Mammoth Dance Ensemble staged by Jack Swinburne
The nucleus of the King George's Pension Fund for Actors and Actresses was formed in 1911 when the net profits of a gala performance at His Majesty's Theatre, in celebration of the King's coronation, were deposited for the fund. Two years later it was decided to give an annual performance with an all-star cast in aid of the fund. The first of these performances was a production of Dion Boucicault's play, London Assurance, and the cast was all-star indeed, including as it did Herbert Tree, Henry Ainley, Arthur Bourchier, Godfrey Tearle, Charles Hawtrey, Irene Vanbrugh, Phyllis Neilson-Terry, and Marie Tempest.
Since then, with only an occasional year missed, productions in aid of the fund have been given annually and have included almost every type of show from Shakespeare to farce. This afternoon's performance will be given by a strong cast, and five crack troupes of dancing girls are in Jack Swinburne's ensemble.
