T. A. M. Bishop
This is the first of four talks which will be given by T. A. M. Bishop, librarian at the City of Westminster Public Library. The speaker has made a special study of the Westminster Archives, and has a fascinating story to tell of local and parish government in the days when Westminster was under this form of administration-that is, until the beginning of the twentieth century.
T. A. M. Bishop has broadcast about the Archives before in a talk entitled ' Past Twelve and a Stormy Night'. Today's broadcast deals with the crisis of 1803, when Bonaparte was preparing to invade England, and the man-power resources of this country were mobilised on an unprecedented scale. The talk will particularly describe how the danger was faced by the ordinary Londoner and the local authorities of the metropolis.
