The Boys' Garden City is one of ' the many branches of Dr. Barnardo's 
Homes. The boys, who number 700, and range in age from four to fifteen or sixteen, are divided up into, twenty separate families, each inhabiting its own small house, with its own ' mother ' at the head. 
This community has its own church, schools, hospital, swimming-pool, gymnasium, and playing-fields, and these amenities are of particular value because such a large percentage of the boys sent to the Garden City are below standard physically and mentally.

The 'Overture, Scherzo, and Finale' is one of three symphonic works composed by Schumann in the year 1841. In form it is practically a symphony without a slow movement, though Schumann himself never called it one. Its title was originally intended to be ' Sinfonietta ', but when, after having been set aside for 
-four years, it was revised and published it appeared under the present title of Overture, Scherzo, and Finale.

THE WEEK'S GOOD CAUSE

An appeal on behalf of THE PEEL INSTITUTE by B. A. CAMPBELL , Warden 
The Peel Institute was founded forty-five years ago by Sir George Cillet , the present Commissioner for the Special Areas. 
In the year 1660 the site of the institute was occupied as a wood-yard. The bakers of those days (as to some extent they do even now) employed a long wooden instrument called a ' peel ' to place their bread in the huge ovens, and the manufacture of these instruments was quite an important little industry. On this site where John Elston 's wood-yard once stood, a Friends' Meeting-House has now existed for three centuries. 
The present building is the third which has been erected. For three hundred years Friends have gathered here for worship, but such meeting are no longer held in it ; now it is a centre of social, educational, and religious life. No fewer than 1,000 families use the buildings, and the work includes every form of recreational, social, and religious life, for boys and girls and men and women.
