After the Revolution Nicholas Tcherepnin was appointed Director of the Conservatoire at Tiflis, but he emigrated two or three years later and, like so many other Russians, made his home in France. 
This String Quartet in A minor is numbered Op. 11, and is therefore a comparatively early work. One naturally expects a man's earlier compositions to show traces of ' 'influence' and, in this case, the predominant melodic influence is obviously that of Borodin, though the material is not handled at all as Borodin would have handled it. In this respect the Quartet is thoroughly characteristic of the great bulk of the music being written in Russia thirty or forty years ago. It is tinged with that delightful national flavour that makes Russian music so generally attractive, but displays an almost Mendelssohnian neatness of workmanship.

Many of you must know and like Lord Peter Wimsey - that unusual detective; many of you may like his nephew, Viscount St. George, commonly called Gherkins, even better, if only because he is nearer your age. It was a bit of luck for him that measles had broken out at his school, or he would have missed the excitement of the mystery of the Dragon Fountain. He thought Peter Wimsey a fairly decent uncle before, but a glorified uncle afterwards. Robert Holland is to play Gherkins, and it is hoped that Jack Melford will play Lord Peter Wimsey.

It was originally arranged that Duke Ellington and his Orchestra should broadcast tonight, but unhappily Duke Ellington is ill. and happily the 'Ace Drummer Man', Gene Krupa and his Orchestra, who were to have broadcast next Saturday, can take his place.
Krupa was born in Chicago twenty-nine years ago. His first job with a name band was with Joe Kayser in Chicago. In 1929 he joined Red Nichols and his Orchestra, to find that Benny Goodman, his boyhood pal, was clarinet and sax man; a few years later he joined up with Benny and rode with him on the tide to fame.

Last winter he formed his own band and it is recorded that in March, on Atlantic City's Steel Pier. when Drummer Krupa's new orchestra got in the groove, 5,000 pop eyed adolescents raised the roof.
