FERUCCIO BUSONI , who died nine years ago, was one of the most eminent pianists of his day, and was so regarded in his lifetime. That, however, was not what Busoni really wanted, for it was as a composer that he wished to be commended to posterity, and it still remains to be seen how far he will ultimately have his wish. Considering that his career as a pianist must have taken up much of his tjme and energy, he managed to compose a great de  four operas including the much discussed Doktor Faust several works for orchestra, and a fair amount of piano works.
