by Ray Clark and Bruce Williams from an aircraft flying over Northolt
Aerodrome described by S. J. de Lotbiniere from the air and Thomas Woodrooffe from the ground broadcast from Northolt Aerodrome
It must be clearly understood that this programme will be broadcast weather permitting: low clouds will spoil things just as much as a gale. But if all is well, listeners should hear something of the experiences of two parachute jumpers from the time they go up in an aeroplane to the time they jump out, float down, and return to earth.
To begin with, listeners will hear
Thomas Woodrooffe talking to the parachute jumpers, Bruce Williams and a woman parachutist, Ray Clark , a few moments before they get into the plane. S. J. de Lotbiniere , Director of Outside Broadcasts, is to go up with them, and he will try to keep listeners in touch with all that goes on in the aeroplane. Before leaving the ground it is the job of the parachute jumper to give orders to the pilot, as to the height he is to ascend, the direction he is to take, and so forth ; but last minute orders may be given in the air, and these de Lotbiniere will pass on to listeners.
The big moment of the programme will be when the parachutists leave the aeroplane in turn, each trying to see who can land nearest a given spot on Northolt Aerodrome. Woodrooffe, on the ground, will describe their descent and landing.
This programme is not a stunt. It represents the sort of jump that any parachutist may have to make in the course of the day's work.
