Enrique Enriquez de Valderrabano was the editor of a collection of works for the vihuela by numerous composers entitled ' Silva de Sirenas published at Valladolid in 1547, but nothing is known of his life.
The vihuela might be described as a cross between a lute and a guitar. In form it is not unlike the modern guitar, but smaller, with a single top string, and the other five, double-strings, are tuned in unison (A, E, B. G, D, A). The vihuela used at this recital was constructed at the Dolmetsch workshops, Haslemere, after exhaustive researches by Arnold Dolmetsch.
Luis de Narvaez was the author of ' Seys libros del Delphin de Musica ', printed at Valladolid in 1538 and containing a set of twenty-two ' diferencias ', or variations, on the well-known romance Conde Claros '. He was one of the earliest musicians to write variations.
Luis Milan , who was born about
1490-1500, was the author of the first book of music for the vihuela, entitled ' El Maestro', which was published in Spain in 1536. Milan claimed to be entirelv self-taught, and many of his compositions point to his having been guided as much by his proficiency on the instrument as by abstract theory. ' El Maestro ' is a fine collection of vihuela music and contains both solo works and songs with vihuela accompaniment. Little is known of Milan's life.

' English Mammals'
C. R. Stoner
In these days when England is so cultivated as to be a garden in comparison with other countries our mammals have to lead a very retiring life. But with patience one may observe them more closely than many imagine. C. R. Stoner will describe what he has seen of them himself and will interpret for listeners such observations as they themselves may have made about the habits and behaviour of badgers, stoats, martens, voles, and many of their kindred in the country.
Many a Discussion Group listener, for whom this series is chiefly planned, has probably actually seen that rare sight, a badger, outside a museum or a book. And many a listener may be able to tell the difference between a stoat and a weasel as one or the other darts across the lane. There seems endless opportunity here for nature-lovers to enliven the discussions' with their own observations.
