This afternoon in his first Sunday talk he is to give some hints about making and growing cuttings of gooseberries and currants, and will also talk about growing bulbs in pots and bowls indoors for the winter.

Szymanovski received his musical education in Warsaw and began his career as a composer by following in Chopin's footsteps. But although he has never quite lost his fondness for national and Chopinesque forms, he soon launched out in large-scale works on lines which Chopin never attempted, such as the Quartet No. i, for which he was awarded in 1922 a prize by the Polish Minister of Education.

Elsie Hall studied in Berlin and distinguished herself by winning the Mendelssohn Stipendium. Miss Hall's home is in South Africa, where she is well known as a teacher and soloist. Last year Miss Hall toured Australia and gave two Bach recitals in Sydney and played the Schumann Concerto with the Sydney State Orchestra.
Waldstein Sonata
The ' Waldstein ' Sonata was written by Beethoven when he was thirty-five. It takes its name from its dedication to Count Waldstein, who was one of Beethoven's earliest friends and supporters, and whose friendship dated from the days of Beethoven's youth in Bonn. It is one of the finest sonatas of what is known as Beethoven's middle period.

An appeal on behalf of the DISABLED SOLDIERS' EMBROIDERY

The Disabled Soldiers' Embroidery Industry gives occupation to men who are still too disabled by the Great War to take up other employment. For nearly twenty years these men have had to face life with all normal occupations and amusements wiped out. They have been taught embroidery by the Industry, whose headquarters are at 42, Ebury Street, London, S.W.I, and from there they are kept supplied with work which they do in their own homes.
Many of them have been taught by post, and work is sent to them in isolated parts of the country. The benefit to them physically and mentally is enormous, and their work is of a very high quality. But each year expenses total more than receipts, owing to the cost of the necessary materials. A sum of money to insure the security of the Industry is required so that the universal request for ' another piece, please ' need never be refused.

An imaginary voyage from Iquique, on the west coast of South America, to London River in the clipper Arunvale, in the days before steam had entirely superseded sail

A voyage in a sailing vessel from South America to London, in the days of hard-cased skippers and shanghaied seamen, will be re-created in tonight's programme, and something will be visualised of the hardships and romance of a clipper in the year 1900. The ship is the barque Arunvale, commanded by Captain Briskett and manned bv a tough crew, sailing out of Antofagasta'in Chile. Listeners will hear the rushing of wind through the sails, the creaking of decks, the mewing of gulls, the swish of the sea round the bows.
Peter Belloc, author of two books about the sea, 'Below Bridge' and 'Tongue' Pie', is the son of Hilaire Belloc. Captain A.H. Bone, author of 'Bowsprit Ashore' and a great authority on sail, is the brother of David Bone - also a fine sailor - whose broadcast series, 'Waterfront and Open Seas', will be remembered.
