'Herdsmen of the Siberian Steppes'
BOSWORTH GOLDMAN
This is the first of three talks by Mr. Bosworth Goldman on People of Siberia, that vast stretch of country to the East of Russia associated in our minds with political exile.
Mr. Goldman knows this country well, and he will describe this afternoon the Kasak-Khirghiz of Central Asia. Look at your map and you will see Khirghiz Steppe running from left to right above the Caspian Sea and the Sea of Aral.
Here in a region of great mountains and dry plains, where the climate varies from intense heat in summer to bitter cold in winter, trade has changed the habits of the people. Mr. Goldman will say something about their lives-their flocks and encampments, where Elders are to be seen riding their bulls.

' Tadpoles, Frogs, and Toads '
ERIC PARKER
This afternoon Mr. Eric Parker is to tell you how and where frogs spend the winter ; how, when, and where they breed ; how frog-spawn develops into tadpoles, and tadpoles into frogs. Probably many of you have watched the process in a glass bowl. Out of the blobs of jelly appear little fellows with tails. And you go to the pond for weed for them, and submerge in the bowl a speck of meat on a thread, and change the water ; and when some of them grow and some of them disappear, you have a shrewd idea that the survivors are cannibals.
But it is quite exciting when their legs begin to grow and their tails drop off and at last they are frogs.
Mr. Parker will tell you what becomes of the young frogs every year, and how frogs feed.
He will show you how a frog differs from a toad, and frog-spawn from toad-spawn, and give you an idea of the length of their live.
