This work is founded upon a poem entitled ' Gwyn-ap-Nudd ', by T. E. Ellis (Lord Howard de Walden). An old Cambrian legend, it speaks of the love of Gwyn-ap-Nudd (King of Faerie) for Cordelia, the daughter of Lear, for whom he fights with Gwythyr and Greidawl on every first of May till the day of doom. The following quotations give the key to each movement:
No. 1.—Allegro
' Open the gates of mirrored horn !
Summon the hosts of pool and lawn'
No. 2.—Adagio
' Clotted of shadows he comes to my hest
A fiery eyed phantom
No. 3.—Molto fuoco
' Blade that meets hlade with never a sound,

The work is in the usual symphonic form, and a new cadenza has been added since the work first appeared and was performed under Sir Dan Godfrey by the composer in 1906. It is one of Holbrooke's best known works.

The Children's Hour
The Family will break up for the holidays
Of all the popular items in the Children's Hour, the Family Party has qualities possessed by no other. It is the only impromptu party on the air-an all-staff rag. Its gaiety is infectious. Ajax reads stories, Mac reads idiotic nature notes, at which Freddie howls with laughter. Sophie plays her famous piece, ' Country Garden ', which she has played for ten years and still plays by request. Freddie, recovered from his laughter, gives a rollicking chorus with Stuart, who then plays ' Cock o' the North ' on his mouth organ. And so the fun goes on. The star turn in the Family Party is undoubtedly the Toy Symphony Orchestra, which became so famous that it was once included in ' In Town Tonight'. Elizabeth, a nightingale ; Raymond, a cuckoo ; Freddie, a quail; Denis, a rattle; Stuart, drums ; Mac, announcing in German; George, a double bass (when he can borrow one); and Leslie Woodgate , conductor..... Hear them today if you have not heard them before. Join in the fun before the Family Purty breaks up for the holidays.

' Holiday Harmony ' is a new series, and may be considered as a summer-time version of ' Hurdy Gurdy '. It is a song show; but the songs will be chosen chiefly from the repertoire of concert-parties of the present and (more particularly) the past. This gives the choice of nearly every song that has ever been written, for it is well-known that concert-parties ' work' all kinds of numbers.
Suitable selections from the band-stand will be heard in the distance, and all the sounds incidental to a seaside holiday. The first programme in this series was given on June 19.

This play, first produced at the New Theatre fifteen years ago, was A. A. Milne 's first big success in the theatre, and it showed a wide public that he was a master of comedy as gay and as light as soap bubbles. He can blow a succession of bubbles that break on a laugh.
Mr. Pim in passing is the means of introducing a more tense note than is to be found in most of the authentic Milne, but we will not divulge the part he plays, nor the effect he has on the inmates of Marden House, which many called ' mellow ' or ' charming ' or baronial ', but none said was ' exciting '. To do so would spoil the surprise of those listeners who are to hear this good play for the first time.
That most gracious and finished actress, Irene Vanbrugh, is to broadcast her original part of Olivia Marden.
