in her original part of 'Olivia Marden ' in A. A. Milne's Corned'
' Mr. Pim Passes By'
The Characters, in order of speaking :
The action takes place in the morning-room at Marden House, Buckinghamshire, on a day in July
Production by PETER CRESWELL
This play, first produced at the New Theatre fifteen years ago, was A. A. Milne 's first big success in the theatre, and it showed a wide public that he was a master of comedy as gay and as light as soap bubbles. He can blow a succession of bubbles that break on a laugh.
Mr. Pim in passing is the means of introducing a more tense note than is to be found in most of the authentic Milne, but we will not divulge the part he plays, nor the effect he has on the inmates of Marden House, which many called ' mellow ' or ' charming ' or baronial ', but none said was ' exciting '. To do so would spoil the surprise of those listeners who are to hear this good play for the first time.
That most gracious and finished actress, Irene Vanbrugh, is to broadcast her original part of Olivia Marden.
(This play will be broadcast in the Regional programme tomorrow night)
