An expert dog-breeder tells of the evolution of two favourite British breeds-the Airedale and the fox terrier. He has a wealth of information about their history, and his enumeration of the points valued in each breed should be of great interest to all dog owners. Major Brice will talk about other British dogs at this time on Wednesdays throughout September.

Walter Wood , who is compering this programme, has a peculiarly detailed knowledge of the origin, history, and uses of the marches used in the British Army. For those listeners who desire to learn more about this music than can be imparted in forty minutes, even by an authority, Mr. Wood's book, ' The Romance of Regimental Marches,' will tell them all they can wish to know. The subject is of absorbing interest. ' These marches,' as a recent article in THE RADIO Times put it, ' witnesses of muchpomp and circumstance, and of glorious deeds which many of them inspired, were derived from a variety of sources. The German conductors, once active in English bands, imported foreign tunes and adapted airs from German operas; local folk-lore provided some of the best marches ; and royal patrons and musical C.O.'s were responsible for quite a number. Whatever the source may have been, constant usage endeared them to their regiments ; and many a faltering step became firmer and many a misgiving heart was strengthened by the well-known strains.'
