Orlando Gibbons, a composer of genius worthy to be grouped with Byrd and Purcell as one of the three greatest English composers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, was born in 1583 and died at Canterbury in 1625. He was appointed a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal, and later organist of Westminster Abbey.
His fantasies for viols and his madrigals are amongst the finest examples of his age.
Thomas Morley was a pupil of Byrd. He too, was of the Chapel Royal, as were, of course, practically all the best musicians of those days Later, he was appointed organist of St. Paul's Cathedral. He wrote a famous book of instruction called 'A Plaine and Easy Introduction to Practicall Musique,' and a number of aires and madrigals, many of which are still very popular with choral societies.

He concludes with a survey of possible developments for language in the modern world.
