' The stories about trains,' wrote the mother of two of our under fives, ' caused them to demand me to take them for a train ride, which great adventure we undertook last week. They had never travelled on a train and it was a most exciting experience. They were thrilled because the train made exactly the noises you make and they saw the engine driver and looked inside the engine.'
The starting point for some fresh adventure, the incentive to some new exploration of the world around them-how often we )earn that Listen with Mother is performing for our small listteners exactly that function, and that simple, straightforward stories, such as those by Joan E. Cass (to be heard again today and tomorrow from Dorothy Smith) about Richard and Maureen who lived near the railway, may be the source of valuable and educative activity.
Wednesday's story, by Leslie Barnard is ' The One O'Clock Dandelion.' to be told by Julia Lang. On Thursday and Friday comes Daphne Oxenford with * The Country Bus,' by Hilda Ashby , and it is the turn of ' Lord Penguin,' otherwise Lorna Pegram , to introduce our stories and nursery rhymes this week and next.

Last week the Dales held the Brimscombe House ' Bring and Buy Sale ' at Virginia Lodge. It was a great success but for the disappearance of a yellow Wedgwood box which Mrs. Mountford had given. Mrs. Freeman was concerned because she felt Mrs. Briggs might have taken it. Later in the week, Mr. Curtis told Mrs. Freeman that Mrs. Briggs wished to speak to her, as she had something on her mind that was worrying her. Miss Marchbanks was worried too. She told Mrs. Freeman she had seen Mrs. Mountford's nephew, Bill Donaldson , taking money from Mrs. Mountford's handbag.
Mrs. Freeman fell and hurt her leg while pursuing Captain. Miss Pink stayed on at Virginia Lodge to help and was introduced to Bill Donaldson. Later she told Bob she had met him before but thought his name was Walker.
