A programme for children under five
Nursery rhymes stories, and music
Today Julia Lang is with us again for another four weeks of storytelling, and as there will be no Listen with Mother ' broadcast on Christmas Day or Boxing Day it will be on Friday of this week that our under-fives will hear the story of the first Christmas. The week's programmes will seek to prepare the atmosphere for this central point of our Christmas broadcasts, and the Nativity story itself will be presented very simply, with only those details that can lie within the sympathy of our small listeners.
Out of the wealth of Christmas songs and rhymes, we could include only the smallest fraction in our programmes focused about the Christmas season, but there is one, beloved of children whenever they know it, which could not be omitted, and when, immediately after the Nativity story, we sing ' Away in a manger,' we shall think not only. as usual, of individual mothers and children at home. but of all mothers and children united for a little while in a very special way. As a. result of the fire in the Fieldings' house last week, Isabel, Edward, and Tiggy were temporarily staying at Virginia Lodge. The Stuarts were in Mrs. Freeman's flat and Mrs. Freeman was in the dining-room. Dr. and Mrs. Dale were extremely harassed with all these people suddenly taking residence at V'rginia Lodge. Dr. Dale talked to Mr. Fulton about the watch he had given Gwen and realised that he had been unnecessarily upset about it. Isabel told Mrs. Dale she had reason to believe Edward was in love with someone else but she would not say who. Later Mrs. Dale saw Edward talking very earnestly to Gerda.
