A programme for children under five
Nursery rhymes, stories, and musdc
' Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat '-and we too, in these programmes for the under-fives, are beginning to get ready for Christmas.
This week our stories and songs reflect the period of busy, happy preparations-Christmas shopping, decorations, cooking, and so on — some of them activities in which the children themselves may take part in their own homes.
But among all this bustle of preparation, the deeper significances of the Christmas festival, in such aspects as can be grasped by small children-in ideas of helpfulness to others and kindness to animals, for example-will not be forgotten, and will be developed further next week, so that when the story of the Nativity itself comes to be told it will be set in an atmosphere which has been made ready for it. Then we shall gradually lead away from this central theme through stories of Christmas celebrations, of parties and pantomimes and similar excitements, back to the everyday life of a new year.
And when it is all over, we hope these programmes will be remembered as having made a happy contribution to the delights of our young listeners' Christmas.

Last week Mrs. Freeman returned from the hospital and the Stuarts settled down happily in Mrs. Freeman's flat. , Richard Fulton, Gwen's employer, had one of his earlier novels accepted by a film company. He gave Gwen a very expensive gold watch as a token of gratitude because she had worked so hard for him. Both Mrs. Dale and Bob warned Gwen that her father would not approve of her accepting such an expensive present from Mr. Fulton, so when Gwen told her father of the gift she adopted a very truculent attitude which ended in Gwen and her father quarrelling. Gwen told Sally of the quarrel and Sally suggested that she should keep the watch until the incident was forgotten. The Fieldings had the first floor of their house burnt out through Tiggy reading in bed by candlelight.
