A programme for children under five
Nursery rhymes, stories, and music
This week's stories for the under-fives are about Sam and little Wu. Sam is small and round, and little Wu is covered with fur and has a long tail; he goes everywhere with Sam. and together they have a different adventure every day. The stories have been written by Mary Palmer.
We have referred before to the children's desire to know more about the characters in their stories. They like hearing a favourite tale over and over agajn-as one mother put it, ' they do so love a groove at that age '-but they like also, and especially as they get a little older, to hear new stories about characters whose acquaintance they have already made. Thus, their world pieces itself comfortably together, while the safe satisfactions of the familiar form a base from which to reach out into new experiences.
This is the first time we have devoted a complete week to stories about the same people, and we hope that, having made the acquaintance of Sam and little Wu today, our listeners will grow fond of them during the week and by Friday regard them as old friends.

Last week Mr. Maggs and Art found themselves in .a muddle with their new job. Monument had words with Mrs. Freeman, as a result of which he gave notice. Mrs. Freeman received a chain letter which she sent on to Maud French. Isabel Fielding and Mrs. Dale both received chain letters. In London Dr. Morton broke one of Mrs. Dale's treasured vases. In Cornwall the Dales returned to the cottage to find Mr. Rutherford's eccentric wife had moved in. The day the Dales were to have returned to London Bo'sun got lost. Mr. Rutherford returned unexpectedly to the cottage He eventually found Bo'sun on a cliff ledge with a broken leg. Dr. and Mrs. Dale returned to Virginia Lodge.

What exactly is the new Territorial Army? How will it take its place within the framework of the National Army? How does the new scheme affect the National Serviceman returning to civilian life, his family, and his employer? The answers to these questions are important to every citizen, and this programme tries to get the subject into focus
