Birds-of-Prey in Scotland and their Protection
Edited and introduced by James Fisher
The kite, sea-eagle, and osprey, three of the six large birds-of-prey which nested regularly in Scotland during the last century, have since become extinct; but the remaining trio-golden eagle, hen harrier, and buzzard-are commoner now than at the turn of the century, and are extending their range.
EDWARD BALFOUR , guardian of the hen harrier in the Orkney Islands, tells how the bigamous behaviour of the males has slowed down the rate of increase
ADAM WATSON gives an encouraging report on the status of the golden eagle, despite continued persecution in some areas
GEORGE WATERSTON describes how the osprey's recent attempt to re-establish itself as a nester was foiled by an egg-collector
