In 1917 the Foreign Secretary, Arthur James Balfour , officially informed Lord Rothschild that ' His Majesty's Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.'
This programme examines the origins of this unique act of State as they are recorded in books on the subject and in unpublished State papers. In addition the writers have had valuable help from Mr. Leonard Stein , whose massive researches have thrown much new light on the subject.
