After weeks spent in uncomfortable furnished rooms the Marlowe family have been lent Cherry Tree Cottage, a pretty little house in a Devonshire village. When they arrive they find that the thatch needs repairing, the garden weeding, the rooms cleaning, and the windows mending; but they set to work, with the help of their strange neighbour Mr. Durrant, to bring Cherry Tree Cottage to life again.
