by Stanley Hyland
Arpa Cayi, the Barley river, is the narrow stream that divides Turkey from Soviet Armenia. In spring of this year Stanley Hyland made a journey from Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, to Zonguldak on the Black Sea, from Zonguldak to Istanbul, across the Sea of Marmara to Yalova, Bursa, and Izmir, then inland along the river Meander to Denizli in the western mountains of the Taurus range. From Denizli he went back to Ankara and made the long train journey eastwards across the plain of Anatolia to Erzurum and Kars and on to the Russian border.
In this talk he gives some of his impressions of western and eastern Turkey.

Appeal on behalf of Spurgeon's Homes by the Chairman, Arnold S. Clark , J.P. Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged, and should be addressed to [address removed]
Founded in 1867 at Stockwell, London, Spurgeon's Homes were transferred to Birchington, Kent, in 1953. Now housed in completely up-to-date buildings, 200 boys and girls who were once in need now receive the Christian upbringing which the Homes provide. Children are received into Spurgeon's Homes from all parts of the United Kingdom, without any discrimination on religious or other grounds, and are cared for from their earliest years till they leave school.
Apart from payments received from
County Councils for three of the children, and certain allowances for children of war pensioners, the Homes are maintained by voluntary contributions and legacies.
