Talk by David Garth
Flowers and wine attract the tourist in Barcelona, where the night life makes amends for its leisurely start with plenty of gaiety later on. By the end of their visit David Garth and his wife had been both embarrassed and charmed by the Spaniards' way of paying compliments.

1—' The Parrot'
Produced by Eve
Burgess Peterkin lived with his four brothers and sisters in the old-fashioned Brighton of 1902. He entirely believed in fairy tales, and blue birds, and magic, so when he met a parrot that talked he knew that he was at the beginning of an adventure.

BBC Symphony Orchestra
(Leader, Paul Beard )
Conducted by Alfred Wallenstein
Among present-day American composers, Samuel Barber is perhaps the most European in style and outlook. His best-known work, the Adagio for strings, originally belonged to an early string quartet. The Overture to The School for Scandal, suggested by Sheridan's comedy, was his first important orchestral composition, written in 1932, when he was twenty-two.
The Suite for string orchestra likewise represents Frank Bridge in one of his earlier phases of development; it dates from 1909-10 and reveals his expert knowledge of the effects to be obtained on stringed instruments.
' La Mer,' the most important work in tonight's concert, is also the most familiar. Completed fifty years ago, this great seascape is not only astonishing in its evocative power; by reason of its breadth of manner and large-scale design it almost takes on the dimensions of a symphony.
