Alberto Ginastera, who was born in 1916, is one of Argentina's leading composers; he is at present Professor of Composition at the National Conservatoire of Buenos Aires. His Variaciones Concertantes for chamber orchestra were written last year: there are eleven Variations, each of which sets off a solo instrument or instruments, or a section of the orchestra.
