Reflections on changing industrial landmarks: by J. L. Hodson
There have been many additions to, and some changes in, the familiar patterns of industry since Mr. Hodson was a boy ... the revolutionary p.'t-head at the new oolljeries; the cable-carrying pylons of the British Electricity Authority; rhe great hydro-electric bastions in the Highlands; the glinting pipes and spheres of the oil refineries at Stanlow and on the Isle of Grain. Mr. Hodson considers these changes against the background of some of the social and political changes of our time.

Appeal on behalf of the ' Wireless for the Bedridden' Society (registered in accordance with the National Assistance Act, 1948) by Gilbert Harding
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
More than 2,400 bedridden and house-bound people of all ages, too poor to provide wireless amenities for themselves, have received the free loan of a wireless set (or relay service) from the Wireless for the Bedridden ' Society. The possession of a wireless set means the relief from loneliness that so often accompanies old age-the awakening of new interests through talks, music, and religious services for those who by ill-health are cut off from the world beyond their four walls. No barriers of age, nationality, or location are imposed. The Society relies entirely upon voluntary contributions to maintain and extend its work throughout the country.
