Appeal on behalf of the Church of England Pensions Board's Homes for aged and infirm clergymen and for widows of clergymen, by Mrs. Geoffrey Fisher
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
In 1948 the Church Assembly entrusted the Church of England Pensions Board with the urgent task of housing the aged and infirm clergy, their elderly widows, and dependants. Many clergymen are unable to retire because they have no means of obtaining suitable accommodation, yet they must vacate their house upon resignation. Widows must move out within two months of bereavement.
With six residential homes now established, and some flats and nursing accommodation, more than one hundred
* and fifty aged people are already enjoying a comfortable yet modest retirement, paying what they can afford from their slender means. The cost to the Board of the balance requ.red is more than £ 12,000 a year.
